Crisis Response Funding

We have previously launched ‘Responsive Calls’ that aim to fund rapid research, usually 3–12 months in length, to inform the response to an unforeseen health crisis in real-time. We first did this for Ebola in 2014, and again in 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, funding 15 studies to contribute to COVID-19 response in humanitarian settings.

We are constantly seeking new ways for integrating emerging evidence and innovations into live responses. We recently funded the adoption of an innovation in Gaza through our Rapid Response innovation funding and have simultaneously been supporting the uptake of innovations into the response to five ongoing crises in Haiti, Yemen, Mali, Somalia, and the Central African Republic.

Taking a local perspective on measuring the impact of GBV programmes in emergencies

This was our second GBV funding call, ‘Taking a local perspective on measuring the impact of GBV Programming’! Through this call, we were seeking to support up to five Consortia with grants of up to £50,000 each. Our aim is to generate new context-based perspectives and insights to inform and progress the global agenda on measuring the impact of GBV programming in emergencies.

Research to support COVID-19 response in humanitarian settings

Elrha is launching an urgent funding call for research proposals to support the COVID-19 response in humanitarian settings. The aim is to fund public health research that will produce robust findings that will contribute to the effectiveness of the current humanitarian response and increase the evidence base for future responses to similar infectious disease outbreaks. Given the global travel restrictions and social distancing measures in place to respond to COVID-19, applicants must be able to demonstrate that their proposed research is relevant, feasible and ethical.

R2HC Responsive Research Mechanism

Funding through this grant mechanism allows us to respond to exceptional public health emergencies with short-term calls for research. The details of the Funding Call will depend on the nature of the humanitarian emergency and is confirmed once the mechanism is triggered.
