WHAT HUMANITARIAN NEED IS BEING ADDRESSED?

The needs of people with disabilities and older people in an environmental hazard situation (e.g. cyclones) can often be ignored. This project will look to co-create opportunities for inclusive humanitarian action in Mozambique, developing ideas such as inclusive warning structures in case of a humanitarian disaster which also inform people with disabilities and older people, and inclusive community structures for humanitarian preparedness.

WHAT IS THE INNOVATIVE SOLUTION AND HOW WILL IT IMPROVE EXISTING HUMANITARIAN PRACTICE?

People with disabilities and older people in Mozambique will be active researchers of their lived experiences in a disaster-prone region. This project will guide a participatory Exploration Lab, using tailored and practical tools to uncover needs and to co-create opportunities for inclusive humanitarian action.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The expected outcomes include:

  • The creation of a concrete and feasible opportunity to engage and include people with disabilities and older people in Sofala Province in humanitarian crises programming.
  • Creation of an opportunity roadmap will show how these opportunities can be further developed.
  • Launch of an interactive campaign targeted at the different user groups.
  • Creation of research report including recommendations.
