Elrha at Global Conferences - October 2024

Throughout October, our colleagues will be attending, speaking, and presenting at international conferences. Below, you can find details on each event, along with links to related Elrha-funded projects and resources. Some events are in-person, others are online or hybrid—you can register via the links provided. If you’re attending, please stop by and say hello.

1. 2024 UNC Water and Health Conference
Date: 14-18 October, North Carolina, USA
This conference, hosted by the University of North Carolina, focuses on achieving universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Innovation Manager Vi Nguyen will participate in a side event with our grantees, the British Red Cross and the African Population and Health Research Center, presenting on the Jengu Handwashing Unit. Additionally, the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, will present their Elrha-funded project on child-friendly sanitation in Rohingya refugee camps.

2. SVRI Forum 2024
Date: 21-25 October, Cape Town, South Africa
The SVRI Forum is the premier research conference addressing gender-based violence and violence against children in low- and middle-income countries. Elrha’s Innovation Manager, Ian Brightwell, will be present throughout the week in the Exhibition Hall, sharing information about our funded innovations targeting gender-based violence in humanitarian settings.

3. AidEx 2024
Date: 23-24 October, Geneva, Switzerland
AidEx, the world’s leading humanitarian aid event, returns with a focus on improving aid delivery in conflict zones. Elrha’s Director of Impact and Engagement, Colette Fearon, will join a panel on 23 October (1:15pm CEST) to discuss scaling innovation in conflict and protracted crises.

4. Global Health Practitioners Conference 2024
Date: 28-31 October, Nairobi, Kenya
The Global Health Practitioner Conference 2024 aims to bring together stakeholders to discuss equitable solutions for pressing health needs due to the interface between communities and climate, and how collaboration will improve health, enable quality programs, and advance coherent policies for Primary Health Care and beyond.
Our Senior Humanitarian Health Research Adviser Gillian McKay will lead two sessions: a presentation on climate emergency and humanitarian health on 30 October (2pm EAT) and a technical roundtable on the Prevention of Undernutrition programme.

5. Climate and Health Africa Conference 2024
Date: 29-31 October, Zimbabwe
This inaugural event focuses on the intersection of climate change and health in Africa. Colette Fearon will attend to hear discussions on research, policy, and strategies to mitigate the health impacts of climate change in the region. The conference will culminate in a scientific declaration and an action plan for Africa’s climate resilience in health.
